Hunger Action Day is Sept. 10: Join the Movement

This September 10th, we come together to recognize Hunger Action Day, a pivotal moment within this month of advocacy, to shine a light on the struggles faced by those experiencing food insecurity and to rally our collective efforts to make a difference.

In Chester County, the fight against hunger is more than just a campaign—it’s a community-wide commitment. Last year, our county commissioners made this dedication official by proclaiming September as Hunger Action Month in Chester County. This proclamation underscored the urgent need to address food insecurity and recognized the hard work of organizations like the Chester County Food Bank and countless volunteers who are on the front lines of this battle every day.

In 2023, the Commissioners of Chester County proclaimed September as Hunger Action Month in Chester County.

Why Hunger Action Day Matters

In Chester County alone, thousands of families struggle to put food on the table. The pandemic exacerbated these challenges, leaving many without reliable access to nutritious meals. While we’ve made strides in addressing these issues, the fight is far from over. Hunger Action Day is an opportunity for each of us to contribute to the solution, whether through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading the word about the importance of food security.

How You Can Get Involved

There are numerous ways to make a difference on Hunger Action Day, throughout Hunger Action Month, and year round. Here are some actions you can take to support the fight against hunger in Chester County:

  1. Donate to the Chester County Food Bank: Financial contributions allow the Food Bank to purchase fresh, nutritious food and distribute it to those in need. Even a small donation can make a big difference.
  2. Volunteer Your Time: The Food Bank relies on volunteers to sort and pack food, assist with distribution, and support various programs. Volunteering is a hands-on way to make an immediate impact in your community.
  3. Organize a Food Drive: Gather your friends, family, or coworkers to collect non-perishable food items for the Food Bank. Every can and box of food brings us closer to ending hunger in Chester County. We also accept fresh produce grown in your garden! We are hosting a Drive-Thru Food Drive on Saturday, September 21 – Hunger Action Day is a great way to kick it off.
  4. Wear Orange: Orange is the official color of Hunger Action Month. Wearing orange on September 10th is a simple yet powerful way to show your support and spark conversations about hunger.
  5. Spread the Word: Use your social media platforms to raise awareness about Hunger Action Day and encourage others to get involved. Share facts, stories, and resources to help educate your network about the issue of food insecurity.

Looking Ahead

As we observe Hunger Action Day on September 10th, let’s remember that the fight against hunger is ongoing. While this day is a significant milestone in our efforts, the work continues year-round. Hunger Action Month is a reminder that we all have a role to play in ensuring that no one in our community goes hungry.

The Chester County Food Bank is committed to this cause, but we can’t do it alone. Together, we can create a community where everyone has access to the food they need to thrive. Join us this September—on Hunger Action Day and beyond—as we take action against hunger and build a brighter future for all.
